A practical suggestion
As a personal and business security measure, I usually use nothig except prepaid credit cards on the web. The resultant limitation of fiscal exposure is obvious, and I've found that the security provisions are usually more extensive than those used with your "regular" credit cards. Most of the prepaid cards have a maximum credit limit of $2500.00, and it's easy to transfer funds from a personal or business bank account for the sake of an expensive online purchase. The prepaids also seem to generate less spam and surface mail marketing material when they're used (it's much harder for a marketing entity to form a demographic profile). As an interim measure; until we can implement a more secure transaction processing environment, this seems to be a viable self-defense measure.
