Cellular One became Verizon
Sorry to put a wet blanket on that one, but Cellular One became Verizon, not Cingular. BellSouth Mobility (which became Cingular) and Cellular One were the major competitors in the Southeast. They each wanted the entire US and became what they are today through mergers.
