Blades
There is something with blades that hardly anyone talks about, blades without local disks.

My opinion is that blades that can boot of a FC SAN or iSCSI SAN have a great advantage, especially with the great possibilities with server provisioning and the like.

However, I suspect that vendors like IBM or HP are not very keen on integrating iSCSI boot options in their blades servers (yet) because they cannot support iSCSI yet on their storage systems.
They can support Fibre Channel but integrating FC HBA's on the blades will add a significant cost.

This is too bad because a blade server without discs would a great blade server. If a server breaks down, just hook up the next blade and your up and running in no time (just to mention an example).

Hopefully the next version of the iSCSI standard will support booting of an IP SAN such as a NetApp filer which runs iSCSI like a dream.
