Yes, use SQL. As I upsized an Access app to a SQL Server back end, I discovered I could eliminate a tremendous number of workarounds by leveraging SQL views, functions and stored procedures. Views are good - see if ASA supports something similar to MS-SQL's table functions, which give kind of a combination of a stored proc and a view - a view that takes parameters. Stored procs are also faster at updating than using recordset operations, although this is more imortant when you have lots of operations to do - looping through a recordset is *slow*.
