In the midst of a paragraph is the following statement:
Also, I ruled out Microsoft's SQL Server because I did not want the overhead of an entire Windows Server to run a small database.

I don't know the cost of a server for you, or whether there was any possible alternate. But those would have been good possibilities to check.

If you had worked within Microsoft products, how much time would you have saved? (Actually, doing this would be a worthwhile experiment as a basis for comparison.)
Your work on the technical intricacies of moving from one product family to another was unproductive in terms of what you're being paid to do. Except insofar as you're getting some articles out of it and some personal experience about significant problems.

The solution of technical problems has real costs. There was a time when IT internal costs were not a significant factor, but that time has passed.
