The learning curve for .Net is too steep for the causual programmer. Until Widbey anyway.


You are probably correct: particularly for casual programmers. I believe however there are overall a number of advantages for professional VB programmers to consider migrating towards C#.

I must say though that I believe the VB .Net team did an excellent job with the language: giving it great OOP capability, and cleaning up redundant features found in VB. And as far as I can tell, the language is largely just as capable as C#. Also many VB programmers realize that VS .Net is to a large extent, an expansion of the VB IDE that allows, among other things, other languages to operate under an enhanced version of the original VB IDE.
