Servoy, not quite there

I've looked at Servoy, and the technology is promising, but I would argue not quite ready for primetime.

My experimentation with it proved to be frustrating. It is slow with complex windows, and it has no reporting capabilities that I was able to discover.

To be fair, Filemakers IWP does not either, but the learning curve is significantly higher for Servoy. In both cases, a "backend" reporting program would need to be written that outputed say pdf files, based on something like a full version of Filemaker or a Report engine like Crystal. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The other problem with Servoy is, it is coming from such a small user base and company. Knowing the company will be there down the road is a big factor. Filemaker Inc is somewhat small, but the user base is large and they are profitable and have been for quite some time, so the risks involved are smaller. This is definately a factor for enterprise level projects. As much as I like to support fresh new technology, the investment has to be matched with an equal amount of risk.

I will be watching to see how Servoy developes. If there are reporting tools and performance enhancements, I'd love to hear about them.
