Beware the Blade Myth
As long as you only look at the ?server? part of the equation you are correct. It can be difficult to justify the switch to blades ? I will also add at this time that density a lone is not a good argument for or against blades seeing that the VAST majority of data centers cannot support fully dense 1U servers.

In infrastructure cost you did not add in the cost of KVM?s, PDU?s, and additional cable pulls (although you did refer the cables vaguely) that are necessary to the 1U environment (admittedly not all designs eliminate the above, but a few do).

Nor did you explain the ?wire once? ability that blade chassis gives you and how that greatly reduces maintenance cost. Nor did you explain how the idea of ?location? brings incredible power to the management suite. By knowing where something will be before it exist I can do many things that a 1U is just incapable of?

It is obvious you have not worked with or experienced a data center based upon blades. Maybe next time you will look at the whole environment instead of the narrow band you are familiar with?
