...for now but they will always be safer than any M$ product ...
You misspoke:

"One of the good things about Microsoft products is that then [sic] there is a big problem we all hear about it and can do something ..."

We, meaning me and you, can't do anything about. *ONLY MICROSOFT CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT* We can't even sue M$ to make them do something about it. They fix it if and when they get around to it. One of the exploits used to install spyware and adware via Internet Explorer has been on the list for over 18 months -- STILL UNPATCHED!

The great thing about Linux and Open Source is that *ANYONE* can do something about it. Anyone, anywhere that has the programming skill can find the problem and correct it. Thousands of people will validate the problem, the solution, and distribute the fix.

Look at the *FACTS*, and quit listening to the *FUD*. Use any product other than Microsoft's product, and the hackers, the spyware, and the adware will not target you.

Linux is safe and secure. Period. It can be safely connected directly to the Internet. So much so that its actually the OS of many routers. You can even run without Antivirus software! Linux is the low-cost Internet Server software of choice.

Windows simply cannot be safely connected directly to the Internet. Period. No matter the software you buy or the updates you download to make it safe, it cannot be made safe. Windows Internet Servers are a costly mistake as most IT departments find out too late.

Gaping security holes Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are the open gate for about 85% of spyware, adware, virus and keyloggers. Both contain ridiculous 'features' that do things like ignore MIME types and execute downloaded content directly from the web with your knowledge or consent, or even the courtesy of a warning. *INEXCUSABLE!*

Use Mozilla under Windows and a hardware firewall, and you'll be safe from most of these malicious attacks.

Just make the small step and switch to Mozilla for web browsing and eMail, and see how much easier and safer your Internet world gets. Mozilla has a built-in popup blocker and junk eMail controls -- something everyone needs.

Then, stick a toe in the water, download the KNOPPIX cd (www.knoppix.com) and try it out. KNOPPIX will load and run from CD, leaving your HD untouched. It works quite well and will detect most all hardware at startup.

Just try it.
