Ummm...
...not to start a war or anything, but doesn't "Users are like cattle, they'll go where the developers herd them" also apply to OSS? More times than I can count, I have heard users derided by OSS supporters as know-nothings who don't know enough to not use Windows, and therefore must be led, kicking and screaming if necessary, into the future. Users of OSS are just as dependent on developers as users of "proprietary" software; how many users really ever look at source code or try to make changes to it?

One of the (legal) reasons Microsoft has achieved its ubiquity is precisely because of its catering to developers.
