isn't that what you pay Norton and McAfee for?
Microsoft Windows is an operating system, not an anti-virus app. And because it is still the king OS of the consumer world, Windows is the one that hackers are writing malicious code for. If Linux or any other OS became the new king, it too would be plagued with viruses. I'd like to see how long it would take for a security patch to be available in the "open source" world. Who wrote the patch? Is it reliable? Will it work on every system?

Hackers are people with the same or greater intelligence than Microsoft's people, or any other software company for that matter. The tools available to conduct such pathetic acts are easy to come by. I've seen hacks for just about any and every piece of software available that requires a fee to use, and some are being written by kids half my age.

I think Microsoft has done a great job of trying to keep their OS hack-proof. By the time they learn of a new virus and are able to write the patch AND test it for compatibility across all Windows Platforms so that you, the consumer, can install that patch without worry, I'd say 72 hours is pretty damn good.

Keeping a virus from getting into your system...isn't that what you pay Norton and McAfee for? Since when did Windows contain an anti-virus program?
