It IS asking too much! Poor products are NOT the Users' responsibility!
EVERY manufacturer has a responsibility to sell products that
can be SAFELY operated by AVERAGE USERS w/o endangering
themselves or others. If MS software requires SPECIAL
KNOWLEDGE to be operated SAFELY by the 'average Joe or Jane'
then it's POORLY DESIGNED!!!

MS should either re-design its products so that they can be
easily and safely used by ANYONE, w/o ANY SPECIAL
KNOWLEDGE, or it should supply FREE TRAINING along w/ its
software in order to educate its customers in the proper and
safe operation of its products [I'm only suggesting this second
alternative b/c it makes some sense logically; I realize that it's
impractical as a solution b/c it would STILL put the responsibility
on the users to TAKE the training and LEARN the information
presented therein].

IMO, THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: IT IS THE MANUFACTURER'S
RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THEIR PRODUCT IS EASY AND
SAFE TO USE W/O ANY ESOTERIC KNOWLEDGE!!!

If MS wants to sell Windblows to EVERYONE, regardless of the
user's technological sophistication, then they damn sure ought
to do a better job of making it easier to use (and maintain!) then
they presently do.

And this is NOT an impossible task!!!

MS should return to their roots and what they are really good at:
copying and marketing.

They basically copied the 1984 Macintosh User Interface to
create Windblows in the first place - they would be well-advised
to take some new lessons in ease-of-use and overall software
design from the 2004 Macintosh User Interface and use THAT as
a template to improve their products.
