Huawei conducts vividwireless WiMax revamp

Telecommunications technology company Huawei today announced that it has enabled beamforming for vividwireless' WiMax network in Perth.

Derived from a radio technology, beamforming uses a noise-cancellation technique to reduce interference. According to the release, it will offer higher and more consistent wireless broadband speeds and performance.

"The enabling of beamforming in the vividwireless network will give users an even better wireless broadband experience, even if they are located some distance from a cell site," said Huawei Australia's chief technology officer Peter Rossi.

Vividwireless has plans to roll-out WiMax networks to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane throughout 2010. Huawei was chosen as the vendor to provide the equipment for the 150 base stations that service the Perth network.

The news comes after announcements that Huawei will also be participating in Telstra's Long Term Evolution or 4G tests, set to commence in May this year. It missed out, however, on a massive network deal with mobile carrier VHA, which was taken out by Nokia Siemens Networks.
