IBM aims to speed up enterprise app development

IBM launched preconfigured apps, tools and design studios as it aims to speed up mobile development in the enterprise.

Announced at IBM's Impact powwow in Las Vegas, the company rounded out its development tools to develop mobile apps. The IBM MobileFirst application development portfolio includes Worklight, Cloudant and BlueMix services.

Worklight is the flagship IBM development toolset and Cloudant is the company's database-as-a-service effort for mobile apps. The latest features in Worklight include technologies to better track feedback, sentiment analysis, crash reports.

In addition, IBM launched IBM Ready Apps, a set of preconfigured apps that Big Blue says can save 60 percent on time and resources. Enterprises can customize the look and feel of the preconfigured applications.

IBM said it is focusing its preconfigured apps at banking, retail, healthcare, insurance, travel and transportation, government and connected devices. IBM also has a preconfigured application for the connected home.

Design studios were also added as IBM builds out its mobility services. The new MobileFirst design studios are being added around the world.
