Infor has added two new modules to its SunSystems Query & Analysis tool that aim to make data analysis approachable for techies and non-techies alike.

The enterprise software provider announced the availability of Infor Query & Analysis Evolve, a cloud-ready web service that provides data virtualization with a focus on reporting and analysis from within the Microsoft Excel environment. Infor said the module allows enterprises to bring employees from all lines of business into the realm of data analysis.

The second module includes the Infor Motion Query & Analysis BI Dashboards, which serve as a web or app-delivered interface for drilling down on transactional details. Infor said the dashboards extend the SunSystems tool to include more mobile technologies through the iPad and a standard browser.

Suzanne Wilt, industry and solution strategy director for Infor, said in a statement:

Organizations need real business intelligence and reporting proficiency in order to know which direction to take when acquiring new companies, launching new products and finding new ways to beat out the competition. Infor developed these two new tools to provide our customers with a system that would provide immediate access to relevant information to help them make informed recommendations and strategic decisions.

  • "data virtualization"?

Data virtualization? Are virtual bits smaller and lighter than regular bits? This could be a much more important story than I'd realized.
