The restructuring of ING Direct's IT hierarchy has crystallised, with the Australian arm of the Dutch Bank tapping the CIO of its Italian operations to move into the head of IT role.
Cebrián started in the role at the beginning of the year, reporting into the Australian arm's chief operating officer, Simon Andrews. Andrews moved into the COO role late last year, after returning to the Australian operations after a stint in the bank's Thai subsidiary, TMB Bank.
"With his strong leadership skills and extensive technical experience, Juanjo will be an asset to the ING Direct team," Andrews said in a statement.
A spokesperson for ING Direct told ZDNet that the new COO and head of IT combination came about based on Andrews' skill set.
"[Andrews] has an IT background, and given IT makes up such a large part of our operations, it made sense for him to oversee both IT and operating functions."
The restructure of the bank's IT hierarchy was necessary due to former COO Anne Meyers taking up a new assignment at ING Direct's Italy offices, and former CIO Andrew Henderson moving to ING Group in Amsterdam.
Henderson, who has discussed the challenges from the bank's cloud deployment with ZDNet in the past, is now the head of the bank's global IT infrastructure services, its CTO, and reports into the global CIO for ING Bank.
