Insightly, which develops the top-ranked small-business customer relationship management (CRM) application in the Google Apps Marketplace, has substantially updated its Web interface. The changes are designed to improve page loading times and to mimic the ongoing evolution of Google Apps and Gmail, with which Insightly closely integrates.

Here are some of the primary changes that have been made:

  • New contact pages (like the image above) that include larger profile photos, automatic discovery of social profiles that contacts and organizations might be managing, and tighter in-page Twitter and LinkedIn integration
  • Faster page load times and navigation
  • A new linking feature that makes it simpler to associate items with each other, so that small businesses can keep better track of key relationships, projects and tasks

"An especially important feature is the ease of adding sets of tasks to a project simultaneously," said A.J. Ghergich, found of Ghergich & Co., an Insightly user. "Making 'activity sets' rather than applying individual tasks is a huge time-saver and really reinforces our processes. With the redesign, Insightly has become even cleaner and more manageable."

International should also look for better language support: a localized Spanish version is planned for the near future, with other languages in the queue behind it. Insightly is also overhauling its data center, with faster Internet connections and servers.

Insightly boasts more than 400,000 users in 100 countries: its user base has tripled in the past year. Aside from the Web app, there are mobile versions for both Apple iOS and Android devices. In addition to its Google connections, the app also connects closely with Microsoft's cloud applications, including Outlook 2013.

The cloud developer uses a freemium model, allowing companies to grant access to three users and up to 2,500 contact records for no charge. (You're also limited to 200 megabytes of storage and 10 custom fields.) Beyond that, the Standard edition costs $7 per user per month for up to 100,000 records, unlimited storage, 25 custom fields, and full integration with Google Contacts and Calendars, as well as MailChimp.

In September 2013, Insightly received an infusion of $10 million in venture funding that it will use for technical enhancements. The investors include Cloud Apps Management (led by the team that created AppExchange and Force.com), Emergence Capital Partners (which was behind companies including Yammer, Box and Lithium), Sozo Ventures and TrueBridge Capital Partners.

  • Simplifies integration will give the required mileage!

Congrats to Insightly on its upgraded product. I appreciate the efforts made on making the integration simple. As businesses of all kinds are going to heavily invest in integration in the coming years, having a product that has simple but effective integration capabilities would give a better mileage in the market.
