Intel MD, CSC CTO join NSW ICT panel
New South Wales' ICT Minister Greg Pearce has this afternoon named the remaining six members of the state government ICT industry panel that will represent the industry to the new O'Farrell government.
The now seven-member panel chaired by Deutsche Bank's John Baird will now play host to:
- Warren Anderson, group vice president of Gartner
- Phillip Cronin, managing director of Intel Australia and New Zealand
- Barry Dietrich, general manager, Technology Solutions Group, CSG
- Bob Hayward, chief technology and innovation officer of CSC
- Dr Ian Opperman, director of the CSIRO ICT Centre
- Jane Treadwell, director of Treadwell Consulting
Each of the panel's new members come from a rich technology background.
Anderson, for example, is a 22-year veteran of the ICT industry in Australia, and Treadwell has held CIO positions at Centrelink and the Victorian Government.
The seven members of the new panel will hold their position for 12 months and, according to Pearce, are "tasked with ensuring that prevailing and emerging technologies are effectively aligned with agency and whole of government objectives".
Pearce said in a statement that almost 200 submissions were received from technology executives looking to join the panel, with the 12-month tenure set to ensure that each applicant gets a fair chance to represent the industry to government.
"The group selected is comprised of some of the top minds in ICT, all with proven experience in driving transformational change and implementing technologies into large businesses or institutions.
"Each individual also brings a particular skill to the table — from the knowledge of the challenges facing small start-up IT companies to the direction of global ICT trends from both the public and private sector perspectives," Pearce said in a statement today, adding that he and the government are grateful that the industry heavyweights are being so generous in giving their time.
The first meeting of the new panel will take place "shortly", Pearce added.
Pearce revealed details of government and industry panels to spearhead the state government's ICT vision in July.
