Intel's board of directors has crafted a new position for Andy Bryant in order to prep him as Intel's next chairman.
Formerly Intel's chief financial officer and current chief administrative officer, Bryant has been appointed as the vice chairman of the board. Intel is gearing up to elect him as chairman next year once the current chairman, Jane Shaw, retires in May 2012. With the addition of Bryant, Intel's board of directors now stands at 11 members.
"The election of Bryant follows a long corporate practice of senior officer and board succession planning in which the board seeks to identify a person with the particular skills and experience considered most appropriate at the time," Intel said in a statement on Tuesday.
