Internode reshuffle sees CIO depart

Internode has seen four of its top staff leave, as part of a broader restructure of the company that will expand co-founder Simon Hackett's role in the company to chief technical officer as well as managing director.

The company today confirmed that four positions were made redundant. It is understood that chief information officer Frank Falco, commercial and DSLAM team lead Matthew Moyle-Croft, IT systems project manager Andrew Walton and infrastructure team leader Mark Newton had all departed the company as part of the shake-up.

Internode CEO Patrick Tapper said this afternoon that the changes made gave Hackett a larger role in the company as it moves into the National Broadband Network world.

"Simon is taking on the role of CTO in order to provide additional 'hands-on' leadership of this process. The four people who have left each played a great role at Internode, but there would have been too much overlap if those positions remained unchanged," he said in a statement. "We have a vast amount of technical skill and knowledge at Internode, with many long-standing employees. It is very much full steam ahead at Internode."

Newton, who has taken a strong public stance against Communications Minister Stephen Conroy and the Federal Labor Government's mandatory internet filtering policy, this morning tweeted the news that he had left the company that he had been a part of since 1998.

"As of yesterday, @internode and I have parted company. End of an era. No concrete plans yet, but plenty of time to consider options."

Users of the broadband enthusiast website Whirlpool have paid tribute to the outgoing Internode employees, with user Melodius summing up that the pair's dedication to customer service is why they signed up to the internet service provider.

"Your outstanding technical and customer service contributions in this forum (and the other forums) are just what made the 'Node forum, and by extension Internode, what it is. No question was too technical or too stupid, too random or answered too many times already. It is because of your contributions (and that of Simon and other 'Node reps) that many of us chose to sign up to Internode in the first place, you made us confident referring family, friends and clients, and your knowledge and transparency kept us as customers even during recent difficult times."

Internode said it was still actively hiring employees for its technology division, with the company advertising for 13 positions.

  • After 4 years I have just churned from internode as recent plan changes made them uncompetitive for me. Internode appear to be tightening their plans a pattern I have seen before in struggling ISP companies. I hope the cost of the NBN is not the cause of the internode restructure.
