With demos shown to attendees just yesterday, itt seems likely than an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 is set to materialize soon.
In less than two hours at Hack In The Box an eagerly-awaited, livestreamed panel of notorious jailbreakers look to take the discussion to the next level.
A jailbreak is still unconfirmed at this time. But yesterday at the conference, a presentation that showed a demo of a kernel exploit in action brought talk of a real jailbreak of iOS 6 to a fever pitch.
Mark Dowd and Tarjei Mandt (Azimuth Security) presented their talk about Kernel Security for iOS 6 to HiTB attendees with a demo of the kernel exploit in action to install and run Cydia on an iOS 6 iPhone 5.
Dowd will be on this afternoon's panel and Hack In The Box Has Dowd and Mandt's presentation slides here.
It will be livestreamed on Hack In The Box's Ustream channel or you can watch it in the embed below at 10:30AM (PST), 1:30PM (EDT), 6:30AM (BST):
Earlier this week, a recently formed team of hackers #TeamDr1zzle worked tirelessly to produce keys to an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS (rumored for iPads and iPods as well).
However, the group imploded and broke up - to then reform as not one, but two teams of hackers working toward the jailbreak.
It remains to be seen if anything will be revealed on the iOS/OSX security panel in a couple hours - but Hack In The Box is proving to be a hacker's playground where surprises are the norm.
One thing is certain: with so many determined hackers, we're close to iOS 6 jailbreak reality.
