iOS 7.1.2 is out, brings bug fixes and iBeacon improvements

Summary: Apple patches iOS 7 bugs and improves the platform's underlying iBeacon technology.

TOPICS: Mobility, Apple, iOS

Apple has released iOS 7.1.2 for iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices running iOS 7.

iOS 7.1.2

The update brings the following improvements and bug fixes to the iOS 7 platform:

  • Improves iBeacon connectivity and stability
  • Fixes a bug with data transfer for some third-party accessories, including bar code scanners
  • Corrects an issue with data protection class of mail attachments

iBeacon is Apple's trademark for an indoor proximity technology which is, according to the company, "a new class of low-powered, low-cost transmitters that can notify nearby iOS 7 devices of their presence."

iBeacons are finding applications in malls, museums, sports venues and other places where there is a lot of iOS-toting pedestrian footfall.

This comes a little over two months following the release of iOS 7.1.1.

The update is available as a small OTA — Over The Air — update or as part of a much larger complete iOS 7 download via iTunes.

  • Never again

Do not count on me this time. Last update of iOS had a bug that affected many users and made the iPhone unable to share the mobile data connection. Apple never admitted the problem officially and it took them a month to solve it.

    Do not rush!
    • iBeacon Connectivity / data protection class of attachments

I'm just a blue collar grunt; this iBeacon, never heard of it. What i intrepret the writer saying, it transmits/advises you when other iOS devises are around? am i wrong. If not: why do i care if other iOSs are around me and MORE importantly I don't a transmitter putting me on blast if it does.

On the mail issue; i don't even know wgat that means. I'm not aware of Apple ever advising/admitting a problem. They definitely didn't send an advisement to each iOS user. NOT THIS ONE. I do know this. I have had problems with the iPhone mail app with Gmail being the box; and the Google Gmail app as well. I only installed the latter because the former was messed up. And my experience when I've tried to use other mail apps compible with iPhone, per Apple, they get obstructed and confounded & confounding as though intentional. The mail is still a a problem that has created tangible loss. Thanks for speaking up and thanks for your time.
  • Errrr

And 7.1.3 will be out to fix the bugs created by 7.1.2. Seems Apple's QC people need to be fired.
  • That's The Mist Important Bugs That Need Patching Apple

I got native apps that crash like podcast and sync issues that require more attention. This patch is just busy work.
