IT outsourcing services and solutions provider CSC is evediently beefing up its big data repertoire with the purchase of Infochimps.

Launched in 2009, Infochimps has developed a big data platform-as-a-service for enterprise businesses.

The open source platform is based on three pillars: real-time processing and streaming, batch Hadoop, and ad hoc queries for actionable analytics.

Headquartered in Austin with a Silicon Valley outpost in Redwood City, Calif., the startup is the second data-focused purchase for CSC.

The company asserted in the announcement that the addition of Infochimps falls in line with its strategy to develop and promote a "complete big data solution set" targeted toward enterprise and government customers.

But for starters, Infochimps will be integrated into the CSC portfolio to be leveraged by CSC's employee base of roughly 87,000 worldwide for providing access to data about CSC's figures for global sales, marketing, delivery and solution development teams.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but GigaOM pointed out that Infochimps has raised approximately $5 million in funding.

The deal closed on August 5.
