JDSU has announced this morning that it has agreed to buy GenComm, a Seoul, South Korea-based provider of wireless test and measurement solutions.

JDSU deal buys gencomm

California-based JDSU, formerly known as JDS Uniphase prior to rebranding in 2005, already distributes a number of GenComm's solutions. This distribution is based on an OEM relationship model and is used by one-tier service providers, wireless network manufacturers and contractors across the globe.

GenComm's services are implemented in order to quickly provision wireless services for consumers and in order to create and develop new revenue streams for enterprises.

In addition, these services have also resulted in revenue of $7.5M in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement sector in the fiscal year 2012. JDSU says the revenue for its products is approximately $175 million.

With the acquisition, JDSU will gain the wireless service provider's product portfolio and a skilled engineering team.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

JDSU designs and manufactures custom optics, optical communications networks, communications test and measurement equipment and lasers.

JDSU's share price dropped 1.5 percent this morning, to $10.89.
