Juniper Networks has unveiled a new security suite touted to protect virtual workloads while moving between physical and virtual firewalls as well as public and private clouds.
Referred to as the "Firefly Suite," the platform appears to be designed with the intention of causing the least havoc for IT admins -- at least during the setup process -- as Juniper promises ease of use when embedding and making changes to these products throughout the network while being able to scale the services at the same time.
Firefly is composed of the three following parts:
- Firefly Perimeter: The virtual and software-based version of the Juniper's SRX Series Services Gateway, or high-performance routers for service providers and other enterprise clients
- Firefly Host: A purpose-built firewall navigating traffic between (as well as protecting) virtual machines. Also includes integration with the VMware hypervisor and VMware management framework.
- Junos Space Virtual Director: The application dedicated to the lifecycle management of Firefly Perimeter virtual machines. The user interface enables admins to set up automated provisioning and resource allocation as well as configure open APIs for integration with third-party management platforms.
This is probably just the beginning of new security products from the Sunnyvale, Calif.-headquartered company with the 2014 RSA show just around the corner this February.
During last year's security expo in San Francisco, Juniper introduced Spotlight Secure, an "attacker database" (or, more simply, a cloud-based threat intelligence service) that identifies individual attackers at the device level, then keeping tabs on them within a global database.
