The Yeouido, South Korea-based technology giant sent invites to local media for a launch event at its headquarters in Seoul. Senior executives of the company’s mobile division will also talk about LG’s future strategy and sales target, LG officials said.

A source directly involved in the unveiling of the G3 told ZDNet Korea the phone will be based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 processor.  It will support download speed of up to 150 Mbps in countries where there are networks to support this, he said.

LG will also unveil the new smartphone in London, New York, San Francisco, Istanbul and Singapore within 24 hours of the Korea launch.

It is the first time the technology giant is launching a flagship phone globally. The G3’s predecessors were all unveiled in Korea and Asian countries first.

“LG’s global launch of the G3 means that it is more confident of its status in the worldwide smartphone market,” said the source. “LG has a more aggressive marketing plan for the G3 compared to the G2.”
