Lloyds online banking downed by technical problem

Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed that its internet banking service was inaccessible to some users on Saturday morning, with anecdotal reports pointing to downtime on Friday as well.

"There has been an intermittent technical problem with the Lloyds TSB internet banking site which has been affecting a small number of our customers during the course of this morning," a Lloyds spokesperson told ZDNet UK on Saturday. "We are working to resolve the issue and hope to have the service back to normal very shortly. We are sorry for any inconvenience that our customers may have experienced."

The spokesperson would not give further details on the nature of the technical problem.

According to Twitter users, including westdotcodott and lesleymp1, the downtime started on Friday evening and continued through Saturday morning.

"Online banking for Lloyds TSB appears to have been down last night and this morning. Anyone else having problems?" Twitter user darrenkerwin tweeted on Saturday morning.

A Lloyds representative told Twitter user PaulOckenden at 10:30am on Saturday morning that the downtime was a "known problem". PaulOckenden confirmed to ZDNet UK that his service was restored around 11:30am on Saturday.

At the time of writing, the Lloyds TSB spokesperson was not able to confirm whether downtime had occurred on Friday as well.

Update 1:30pm

There were no security issues involved in the downtime, the Lloyds spokesperson told ZDNet UK.

"We can confirm the issue has now been resolved and we apologise for any inconvenience that our customers may have experienced," the spokesperson said.

  • Lloyds spokesperson says "We can confirm the issue has now been resolved", don't think so, I've been trying since friday and I have just tried again and still could not log in.

    I had a word with Lloyds and they told me "the issues that affected the service on Saturday did not continue into Sunday - there does not appear to be any issue with the site on Sunday."

    If you're still having trouble I advise you to get in touch with Lloyds directly.
