The Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment has extended a contract with Logica for spatial data management.
The contract, which involves the management of Victorian address and property data, will run for an extra three years, netting Logica over $5 million. The company has held the contract since 1995.
The data (which includes information on details such as boundaries, infrastructure and postcodes) is used by emergency services, state and local government, private security firms, utility infrastructure and digital mapping organisations.
Logica collects data from sources such as Victoria's Land Registry, local governments, VicRoads and surveyors. It stores and supplies the data to the department which provides it to users.
"It is vital that the Victorian State Government has the most reliable data as this information is relied upon by local and national businesses, councils and the general public," Logica government industry director Paul Sargeant said in a statement.
"Effective management of this data means that Victorian communities can trust in services that rely on maps, whether it's needing a quick response from emergency services or simply looking up a street address."
