M2 Group has announced it will commence a process of consultation in an aim to reduce role duplication across a number of its departments, including technology, administration, customer service, provisioning, and sales.

While no final decision has been made, the company has identified that approximately 150 roles will become redundant as a result of the potential restructure. The process is expected to largely impact its contact centres and it is understood it will have flow-on affects on its administration department, such as human resources, and its technology department.

According to M2, the consultation process will involve all team members.

"We very carefully consider any change that may affect our team and we enter into the consultation process with the aim of minimising any potential impact on the team and maximising redeployment opportunities," said Geoff Horth, M2 CEO, in a statement.

"This decision was not made lightly and we take any impact on our team very seriously."

The company said role duplication has occurred because of M2's acquisitive growth over the last two years, where the telco group bought out Dodo for AU$203.9 million and Eftel in March of last year, as well as Primus for AU$192.4 million in 2012.

The consultation process is expected to take a couple of weeks with plans to wrap it up as quickly as possible in order for the company to have a clearer indication of the structure that will be required to support future operational requirements of the business.
