A 56-inch LCD screen that weighs 30kg will debut at the CeBIT trade show in Hanover this week.

Chi Mei Optoelectronics will be showing its 8.3 million pixel V562D1 LCD monitor. The active part of the screen measures 1.24m by 0.7m, and it has a maximum resolution of 3,840×2,160.

The monitor is expected to hit the shops in the third quarter of 2006, with an estimated retail price of around $10,000 (£6,000). Chi Mei's chief executive, Jau-Yang Ho, said it would be first used in the medical and satellite pictures industries, according to TrustedReviews.
