McAfee and its parent company Intel have introduced a jointly-developed network security platform designed to deliver next-generation IPS services with throughput of up to 40Gbps with all of the NGIPS services running.

The McAfee Network Security Platform NS-series is touted to not only feature the IPS advances against advanced and stealth attacks, but it is also touted to leverage Intel processors for improved efficiency and performance.

McAfee's NS-series is actually the antivirus solutions provider’s first IPS hardware platform based on Intel technology.

Engineers from both companies teamed up on developing the hardware to support the platform, which is supposed to also offer more scalability to support growing network demands while also simplifying deployments.

McAfee stressed in the announcement that IPS scalability in datacenters is vital as organizations require more bandwidth rapidly thanks to growing dependence on the cloud and virtualization along with more adoption of 10 GigE and 40 GigE throughputs.

Since merging in 2010, McAfee and Intel have partnered on a number of infrastructure projects.

For example, nearly one year ago the two businesses announced a new initiative intended to better protect the world’s energy utility ecosystem from increased cyber attacks.

Under the partnership, Intel and McAfee were tasked with developing a blueprint for a comprehensive solution of multiple products that will comprise a multi-layered security platform.
