Microsoft gets selfie obsessed with launch of its Lumia 730, 735 and 830 smartphones
Microsoft unveiled three new devices with a nod to the selfie conscious.
The three Lumia phones – the 730, 735 and 830 – were all unveiled at the IFA tech show in Berlin on Thursday, alongside Denim, the next generation of Lumia firmware.
The Lumia 830 is the highest specced of the trio, aimed squarely at the mid-range with a €330 price tag and some solid features.
The handset has a five-inch IPS-LCD display with 1280 x 720 resolution, a 10 megapixel front-facing camera and a 0.9-megapixel front-facing equivalent. There's the Zeiss optics you'd expect, as well as a thinner optical stabilisation unit, meaning it's a skinny 8.5mm.
It's powered by the 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, although its RAM is a little on the low side at 1GB.
There's also wireless charging using the Qi standard, a removeable 2200mAh battery, 16MB of onboard memory and a microSD card slot that can take up to 128GB. All of that, and it's a lightweight 150g.
On the software side, it's got Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Denim onboard, as well as all the usual Office apps.
The other two devices, the Lumia 730 and Lumia 735, are lower end. According to Microsoft, they're "built for Skype and selfies", which means they do have souped-up front facing cameras.
Both have a five megapixel front-facing snappers and 6.7 megapixel cameras for the rear. They're both powered by 1.2Ghz Snapdragon quad-core chips, have 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, and 2,220mAh batteries.
The two devices also share a 4.7-inch HD OLED display. Like the 830, they'll also ship with Denim.
There are a few differences in hardware, however. The 735 has LTE support and is single SIM, while the 730 is 3G only but offers dual SIM use. The 735 also comes with Qi wireless charging.
Accordingly, the 735 has a slightly higher price tag: €219, compared to the €199 price tag on the 730. All three devices will go on sale this month.
