Microsoft's Office Mobile for Android phones has finally reached Asia in key markets such as India and Singapore, nearly a month after its U.S. launch. The Android app will also be available in Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese--making it available in 33 languages altogether.
It's now available in 14 additional markets in the Asia-Pacific, joining 102 others around the world such as Australia and New Zealand:
- Hong Kong,
- South Korea,
- Papua New Guinea,
- Sri Lanka,
- and Taiwan.
The app is expected to be rolled out in China in the next few weeks.
Office Mobile can be downloaded from the Google Play store, but requires an Office 365 subscription to use. It allos users to access, view and edit files by Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and is also optimized for the small smartphone screen.
Features of the app include "Resume Reading" which when opening a Word document from SkyDrive on the phone, it automatically resumes at the place where the user had stopped, even if you last viewed on other devices such as the PC or tablet.
The introduction of the app in the new markets will help Microsoft drive traction in the mobile space, as it looks to cater to users on the go on various platforms.
