Antivirus vendor AVG has announced that it has entered into a partnership with MokaFive to provide protection for the company's virtual desktop products.

MokaFive, which supplies virtual desktop management software (video) for consumers and enterprise customers, will begin integrating AVG's antivirus tools directly in the management suite immediately.

The companies say that the decision to partner AVG's antivirus services with MokaFive's core products is driven by a need to secure the data and communications of an increasingly remote workforce.

"The partnership adds a critical security layer to the virtual desktop marketplace, as more enterprise companies are turning to desktop virtualization as a secure solution for bring your own computer (BYOC) and work from home initiatives for employees," said AVG in a statement.

The integration of the security features is platform agnostic too, meaning that it will work on any host device "regardless of if it is Macintosh or Windows". Linux support was not explicitly mentioned in the statement.

AVG has gained much support for its antivirus product by distributing it for free to its home users. Avast, rival provider of free antivirus products, announced that it had received $100m (£64m) investment from private equity firm Summit Partners on Monday which the chief executive, Vince Steckler, said was "a vote of confidence" for the company's 'freemium' business model.
