Motorola and Verizon announces three new Droids, one with 48 hour battery life

Admittedly, I really didn't care too much about any Motorola announcements for new Droid on Verizon given the upcoming Moto X and all the other excellent smartphones. I then heard about the Droid Maxx having a reported 48 hours of battery under "normal" usage and my ears perked up.

I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I might get through one full day on a modern smartphone, but given that my days typically last from 4:15 am to 10:00 pm it is rare to even go a full day without connecting to a power source. The Droid Maxx will be priced at $299.99 under contract on Verizon with a launch data of 20 August. It is powered by a 3,500 mAh battery (with wireless charging capability), but remains only 8.5mm thick with a 5 inch display. It also includes a 10 megapixel camera.

Motorola also announced the Droid Ultra at $199.99. It also comes with a 5 inch display and includes a Kevlar shell, 2,130 mAh battery, and 7.1 mm thickness. The Droid Mini has a 4.3 inch display and wireless charging while being priced at $99.99

It has been years since I tried a Motorola Droid device, but when I hear of a device that may last through my very long day and into the next I get more interested. Engadget posted a first look at the event and I have to say it looks quite nice.

There are some new software features in the devices, such as Droid Zap that lets you share photos between Droid devices, Active Display that displays shortcuts to notifications when you hover over the display, and Quick Capture that lets you shake the phone to launch the camera. I understand there are more software features that look to also be part of the Moto X device, such as the voice control ability to say "OK Google Now" and have Google Now launch without touching the phone.
