The Malaysian police aims to improve its service delivery by introducing an online system for the public to check on the progress of reports lodged, according to a report.
In a report Friday, local newspaper The Sun Daily said the system is expected to be launched by the end of August.
It added that the system will display details of the development of investigations and can be accessed from home by the public, according to Idris Jala, the CEO of Performance Management and Delivery Unit--a government agency tasked with improving public service delivery.
He added: "Everything is via the Internet, so you don't have to call the police station because all the details will be uploaded to the system."
The public can access their cases online with the serial number of the report lodged, Jala said.
The Malaysia police is not the only one leveraging technology. In February, Taiwan's National Police Agency announced it was working on a crime-reporting app for smartphones to help speed up police response and improve access to its services.
