in brief NEC Australia-owned network Nextep has announced it will deliver dozens of new DSLAMs across regional locations in Australia, following Nextgen Network's fibre roll-out as part of the Federal Government's Regional Backbone Blackspots program.
The company has today announced that it will roll-out 62 new DSLAMs in regional areas of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia at five backbone links supplied under the Federal Government program. The company said three of the five are up and running, with the final two expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
Nextep and iiNet were the first two telcos to hook customers up to the new Geraldton backhaul link in Western Australia when it was finished in March this year. NEC Australia managing director Alan Hyde said the DSLAM roll-out is designed to meet customer demand for bandwidth and quality of service.
"NEC's backhaul and core network capacity have been expanded extensively to ensure the continued delivery of reliable, high quality and cost effective services to our customers," he said in a statement.
