Australia's second largest internet service provider, iiNet, has appointed two new board of directors — Patrick O'Sullivan and Paul McCarney.

O'Sullivan is an ex-Optus and Goodman Fielder chief financial officer, and has previously held the role as chief operating officer and finance director of Nine Entertainment. He is currently a non-executive director of Carsales.com, a non-executive director of Little Company of Mary Health Care, a national Catholic health care organisation, and is chairman of Healthengine, an online medical directory.

McCarney has experience as a consultant, investor, and entrepreneur in the digital technology and marketing space. He was the co-founder of search marketing agency Decade Interactive, which was acquired by Nasdaq-listed 24/7 Real Media in 2004.

iiNet chairman Michael Smith said the new additions will bring a new mix of experience to the board.

"Both Pat and Paul have strong background in the online and technology space and we're confident that they will bring some exciting new thinking as we continue to grow the business," he said.

The appointments follow the recent departures of Internode founder Simon Hackett, who left to join the NBN Co board, and Paul Broad from the iiNet board.

But these aren't the only recent departures from the company. iiNet recently said goodbye to founder Michael Malone who announced he was leaving the company after 21 years in March.
