I've written plenty of separate articles here about e-commerce and easy-to-use Web site development options for small businesses. A new partnership between Wix and Shopify aims to combine these two capabilities.

The solution involves an integration between the Wix HTML 5 Web site builder and Shopify, an all-in-one commerce solution. It comes in the form of a Shopify e-commerce application being sold through the Wix App Market, which features third-party solutions that have been optimized to work with the Web site publishing system.

The application can be added seamlessly into existing Web sites, helping small companies create online stores, manage inventory and even sell their products and services internationally.

"The Web enables small businesses to play in the same field as huge corporations," said Wix co-founder and CEO Avishai Abrahami, in informational materials about the new partnership. "By adding a Shopify e-commerce solution into our App Market and thereby into Wix Web sites, we set out to bridge the gap even more."

Wix was founded in 2006 with a goal of offering an easier way for small businesses to create Web sites without having to code. Its HTML 5 publishing platform comes with hundreds of customizable templates, and the service is used by an estimated 27 million users worldwide, according to the company. Wix is backed by Insight Venture Partners, DAG Ventures, Mangrove Capital Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Benchmark Capital. Wix plans for entrepreneurs or freelancers start around $14.90 per month.

Shopify is used by more than 35,000 online retailers, including entrepreneurs like electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors and fitness organization CrossFit. It has received more than $22 million in venture funding from the likes of Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Felicis Ventures and Georgian Partners. The basic Shopify service is priced starting at $29 per month.

  • We help S-M Businesses Integrate Social Feeds Into their Websites

    Hi,

My name is Tim, and I just launched a new app called Tint into the Wix App market place. We let anyone aggregate any social feeds and embed it beautifully into their Wix site, turning a static site into a dynamic one.

Integration is SUPER, and I mean SUPER, easy. I've been working on this A LOT & I guarantee you will love it. If not, email me and we can personally chat on how I can improve it for you.

Again, go to the Wix App Market Place, and look for "Tint" under the Social Networking tab.

    Thank you,
    Tim
