Tableau's business intelligence growth: 7 takeaways

Insights, which was launched in March, is an example of how applications monitoring and analytics is merging to some degree with business intelligence. After all, all businesses run on software and the key metrics flow through applications. Software captures everything that happens in a business.

On TechPro Research, I argued that companies need to follow a two-tier business intelligence strategy where they keep their core investments in place, but start experimenting with tools from AppDynamics, New Relic, Tableau and others.

For New Relic, Insights is a way to hit more industries and put a mobile front end on its data on the go. Insights has an iOS app to go with it, but no Android version yet.

As for customer references for Insights, New Relic cited Nordstromrack.com, which cut downtime hours in its fulfillment center; online education outfit Envato, which tracked progress of a mass customer password reset effort; and digital study brand Quizlet, which boosted conversion rates.
