News Burst: AOL members spend a billion over holidays

Summary: 1998 was a banner year for America Online Inc. and for its merchant partners.

The company said today that its members spent more than $1 billion online between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And 1.25 million of those shoppers were making their first purchases online.
