News Burst: Motorola and Sun join on Wireless deal

The dream of a wireless world was given a boost today with Sun and Motorola agreeing to share technology as part of a ten-year deal.

The deal -- worth $1bn (£0.60bn) -- will see Motorola's wireless platform technology combined with Sun software to create wireless networks capable of delivering IP-based voice, data and video services.

Sun chairman Scott McNealy believes the agreement will reduce cost and increase choice for consumers. "In short, Sun and Motorola are laying the foundation for the digital wireless network of the 21st century," he said.

A conference call is scheduled for 4:30.
