News Burst: Nerds strive to find world's slowest NT box

Summary: A competition is underway to find the world's slowest NT server.

The contest, initiated by nerdperfect.com , self-confessed news channel for high-tech slackers, began in earnest today, with clear guidelines for slowness posted on the group's homepage.

Timing can be recorded for rebooting any NT system . Stop-watches should be started from the moment a user selects "yes" on a warm reboot, and stopped when the NT desktop appears, and all operating system elements have loaded.

Current records for slowness range from quite slow, at 7 minutes, 27 seconds, to extraordinarily slow, at 49 minutes, 13 seconds.

Are any of your machines even slower to reboot? Will another OS prove slower than NT? Tell the Mailroom
