News Burst: Web businesses ignore privacy concerns

According to a Jupiter survey, European Internet businesses are failing to address consumers' concerns over personal privacy.

The survey found that 68 percent of European Web businesses collect information on their customers, but only 10 percent displayed their policy on privacy. Consumers' data was collected in the form of emails or personal demographic data.

This is of particular concern in the light of a recent Jupiter consumer report that found 60 percent of online users that did not purchase online were held back by fears about security of credit card and personal information.
