A bug in Akamai Technologies' content management tools temporarily slowed or stopped downloads on Monday morning for some of the large Web sites that use its Internet distribution services. Akamai hosts elements such as graphics and video for many of the biggest Web sites online.

The slowdown was not a result of "outside interference," the Cambridge, Mass.-based company said Monday. The bug was found and the service restored to normal after about 90 minutes, an Akamai representative said.
