Apple Computer is testing 24-hour a day Web-based chat support for some customers. For now, the option is available only to iMac customers who either bought their machine in the past 90 days or who have purchased an AppleCare extended warranty.

"If you have an iMac and need help, give it a try and tell us what you think," Apple said in message on its Web site. The service requires customers to use Safari 1.1 or later, Microsoft Internet Explorer (Mac version) 5.2 or later, or Netscape 7.2 or later. For those trying to get support through a Windows machine, Apple supports Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.
