BEA Systems has signed on four organizations that plan to incorporate its Beehive open-source Java development software into their own open-source initiatives.

BEA said Tuesday that Red Hat, Hewlett-Packard, and two open-source Java application server projects–ObjectWeb consortium's Jonas and Apache Software Foundation's Geronimo—plan to use Beehive Java development technology. The software from Beehive, which is now an Apache open-source project, is designed to work in conjunction with Java development tools to provide a simpler, visual method for writing Java programs.
