Mobile and remote users can access enterprise applications and information using any type of network, including dial-up, wireless (such as CDMA, GPRS, and 1X), satellite, and broadband (DSL, cable, and WAN). The software supports both VPN and SSL security.
Version 2.1 features up to 40x compression for text-based content, data reduction of up to 98 percent, and lossless compression for e-mail and FTP messages and attachments.
SlipStream Data also offers SlipStream SP, a Web- and e-mail-acceleration solution for service providers that promises a similar 6x speed increase. The product includes an HTTP browsing client that supports Windows Mobile 2003 and .Net; a similar version for SlipStream SE is currently undergoing testing, the company said.
The existing client version of SlipStream SE 2.1 requires a 200MHz Pentium II processor, 64MB of RAM, 10MB of hard-drive space, and Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, or XP. For servers, the requirements vary depending on the number of concurrent users. For example, a 300-user configuration requires two 2.4GHz Intel Xeon processors, 2GB of DDR SDRAM, and two 36GB SCSI hard drives.
Prices are determined based on the number of seats and start at $65 per user. A 50-user license costs $3,250; a 500-user license, $25,000.
