Coolest Kinect hacks - videos

Summary

Kinect has been out for less than a week, but already enterprising hackers are finding unusual ways to put the sensor bar's 3D imaging capabilities to good use.

Kinect has been out for less than a week, but already enterprising hackers are finding unusual ways to put the sensor bar's 3D imaging capabilities to good use...

It all started when electronic company Adafruit Industries offered a $1,000 reward to the first person to build an open-source driver for Kinect, which would enable other l33t h4xx0rs to use Kinect for their own innovative means. Microsoft didn't take kindly to that competition, which prompted the reward to be raised to $2,000, and then again to $3,000.

Very impressive, and it's just the beginning.
I would expect that MS had always planned to make PC kinect options available after establishing the device on the X-Box, considering all the potential (And right after Minority Report, MS did release a lab demo of an alpha setup for gesture based controls so they've definately got an idea what that potential is.)
But now, with the drivers released and creative applications turning up, I have to wonder how much of a fire this will be lighting under whoever at MS is tasked with putting together the official drivers, development kits, and whatever code is necessary to integrate it with Windows 7's built in Multitouch and speech recognition.
