Double-screen laptop appears in Japan

CHIBA, Japan--This otherwise run-of-the-mill laptop from local PC purveyor Kohjinsha has not one, but two widescreen displays.
One of the 10.1-inch screens actually slides behind the other, so it's able to be closed like a normal laptop. When they slideout they form an admittedly odd-looking, but useful dual display setup.
Also inside the laptop: a 1.6 Ghz AMD Athlon Neo-MV40, 4GB of memory, Bluetooth, a TV tuner, and a biometric fingerprint reader. The OS will be Windows 7 Home Premium, graphics are DirectX 10 compatible, and the whole thing weighs about 4 pounds.

Try using that on an airplane!
I can't even open my 13" laptop when sitting in the cheap seats!
It's an interesting concept, though I wonder about durability. My laptops take a lot of beating, especially with the airport security requirement that you take it out of the bag. That one rule has probably raised laptop sales by a measurable factor due to damages incurred and replacements.

Airplane Mode?
Was just thinking the same thing. But since the
screens slide out instead of clamshell, does that
means you could leave one tucked away for close
quarters?

That would be...
...a smart design and would also save battery life.

RE: Double-screen laptop appears in Japan
Nice idea, but the 10.1'' takes the fun out of it. A screen smaller than 15.5'' (my current laptop) are way to small for anything more than... nothing. And twice of them are just idiotic.

Unless it pops up braille dots, that thing is freakin' impossible to read.
So why do it if the text is too small to read?
Or is the resolution 800x400, which is pretty bad too...

Sweet twice the screen space for porn on the go!!
That is what japaneese spend alot of their time looking at right? Besides reading manga.. which can also be porn.

Awkward movie play...
For fullscreen, only one of the screens will do... what will the
other one display? Can you turn one off?

Interesting Idea...
...It would be a great way to double a very small screen size, thereby giving an ultra portable much more screen real estate. I want one.

RE: Double-screen laptop appears in Japan
I fly Japan Airlines and have never had an issue with
seating or security, as the staff are well-versed with
laptops and other expensive equipment (though it may be a
different story when traveling in and out of JFK Airport,
so perhaps they should release an U.S. edition that uses
titanium alloy exterior casing).
